CUMBERLAND — Albert Wayne Junior Keener, 41, of Cumberland, passed away on July 17, 2013 at his home.
Born on July 9, 1972 in Cumberland, he was the son of Maxine L. (Owens) Keener and the late Wayne Keener. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his grandfather, Albert Owens.
Albert was a 1990 graduate of Oldtown High School, where he was Valedictorian. He was also given many awards in high school, which included the Maryland Distinguished Scholar Award, U.S. Achievement Academy Award, the Merit Scholastic Award, and the Outstanding Achievement Award. After high school, Albert went to further his education at Frostburg State University where he graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design. He was employed by Alliance Publishing for 18 years where he was an I.T. Manager, and previously worked at the Martinsburg Journal. Albert loved the City of Cumberland. He was very concerned as to trying to make the city as best as possible. Albert served on several committees in Cumberland and even ran for City Councilman. He enjoyed his computer, and playing games where he could design his own city how he thought it should be. Albert will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his brother, Dwayne Keener and significant other Cynthia Schebe; his half-brother, Kevin Keener and significant other Kim Phillips; his grandmother, Norma Owens; his nieces and nephews, Jacob, Shasta, and Austin Keener; and his dear friend who looked after him, Agatha “Tina” Duckworth; and his cat, Balder.
Albert will be cremated and a service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flower, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
