TYLER, Texas — Bill Shanholtz Sr., 86, of Tyler, Texas, was at home with family when he went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, July 22, 2013.
Bill was born to the late Thomas and Ruth Shanholtz in Green Spring, W.Va., on Sept. 2, 1926. Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Simpson, daughter, Deborah Lee Shanholtz Lash and son-in-law, Dr. Donald R. Lash.
Bill moved to Cumberland in 1937. There, he attended Fort Hill School and at the age of 17, he enlisted in the Navy to serve his country during World War II. After being honorably discharged on June 6, 1946, Bill married the love of his life Virginia Lee Pyles. Bill started his career at Kelly Springfield Tire Company on Sept. 7, 1946. He was relocated to Tyler, Texas to assist in the start up of a new plant in 1962. Bill retired from Kelly Springfield on Oct. 1, 1986, after 40 years of service. After his retirement he started The Kelly Springfield-Goodyear Salaried Retiree Group. He was very proud of this group and enjoyed their times together.
Bill was a faithful member of Fifth Street Presbyterian Church in Tyler. He was also a member of the Chandler Masonic Lodge 993 and the Sharon Temple Shrine of Tyler.
Bill is survived by his wife of 67 years, Virginia Shanholtz, of Tyler; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Karen Shanholtz, of Tyler; daughter-in-law, Pam Worthington Lash, of Irving; sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Roland Bolyard of Wiley Ford, W.Va.; grandchildren, Tonya Shanholtz, of Tyler, Kelli Bergbower and husband Greg, of Lindale, Shelby and Lesley Shanholtz, of Lindale, Dr. Dustin Lash and fiancee Kay Futrell, of Arlington, Lindsay Lash, of Dallas, Kimberly Lash Stibich, of Arkansas and Stephanie Lash Plummer, of Flower Mound; great-grandchildren, Bree, Brayden and Brylee Bergbower, Lauren and Brandon Shanholtz, Stefan and Alexia Stibich and Katie Plummer; his great friend, Ward F. “Jim” Voit and many nieces and nephews and their children.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Chandler Memorial Funeral Home in Chandler, Texas.
Services will be conducted on Thursday, July 25, at 10 a.m. in Chandler Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Steven G. Simmons officiating.
Burial will follow in Tyler at Tyler Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Shelby Shanholtz, Dustin Lash, Greg Bergbower, David Moody, Brayden Bergbower and Brandon Shanholtz.
Honorary pallbearers are the Kelly Community Federal Credit Union Board Members and The Kelly Springfield-Goodyear Salaried Retiree Group.
