MARY C. GOLLIDAY [Moorefield, W.Va.]

— MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Mary Catherine Golliday, 75, of Morningside Drive, Moorefield, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 1, 2014, at the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va.

Born April 19, 1939, in Hardy County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Lancy William Hammon and Mary Florence (Wilt) Hammon.

Mary was a cashier for Food Lion in Moorefield for 22 years. A devoted member of the Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church, she was a
Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. Having never met a stranger, Mary always had a smile and was fondly crowned as having the “best creamed peas” at many church dinners.

On April 23, 1960, in Cumberland, she married Melvin “Sonny” Golliday whom survives with their two sons, Gregory and Jennifer Golliday of Standish, Maine and Jeffrey Golliday of Louisville, Ky.; their daughter, Kathy and Derrick Harvey of Old Fields, W.Va.; and their three grandchildren, Oceanna, Taylor and Trey. Mary is also survived by three sisters, Shirley and Willie Baldwin of Kirby, W.Va., Patsy and Dave Gapen of Charles Town, W.Va. and Betty Hammond of Silver Spring; a brother, James and Edie Hammond of Winchester; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014, at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington St., with Pastor Jay Parkins officiating.

Interment will follow at the South Branch Memorial Gardens near Petersburg, W.Va.

Friends were received at the funeral home on Saturday, July 5, 2014.
