DAVID A. FORBES [Cumberland]

— CUMBERLAND — David Allen Forbes, 55, of Cumberland, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on July 27, 1958, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Robert and Mary (Aldridge) Gilbert.  

David was a United States Navy Veteran. He spent four years in the Navy and was aboard the U.S.S Koelsch. He then went into the Navy Reserves. David was also a member of the Goodfellowship Club, the Outdoor Club and the Crossroads Sportsman Club. He was employed as an assistant manager for Parkview Liquors and prior to that he was district manager for Commonwealth Brands Inc.  

Surviving are his two daughters, Bridget Lee Forbes and Ashley Marie Forbes; three brothers, James Forbes, Frank Forbes and wife Sandy, and Robert “Bobby” Gilbert; his sister, Kathy Gilbert; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.  

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A. ( 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Sandy Cowan officiating.  

Interment will be in the Maryland State Veteran’s Cemetery, Rocky Gap.

Military Honors will be accorded by the Post 13 Veteran’s Honor Guard.

A special thank you to Robbie Robinette, Bill Partlow and Ruby, Carolyn Smith, Tommy Welsh and Becky Forbes for caring for Dave during his illness.
