RICHARD E. CRITES, JR. [Lewes, Del.]

— LEWES, Del. — Richard Ellis Crites, Jr., 70, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2014 at his home.

Born Oct. 21, 1943 in Hammond, Ind., he was the son of the late Richard Sr. and Ethel (Moore Dowling) Crites.

He retired in 2005 as an Administrator of Chicago Transit Authority after 24 years of employment.

“Dick” will be remembered as a private and generous man, willing to help those most in need. He was a very hard worker and believed in working hard for his assets. He was also a very funny man, always joking with those around him. He was a son, father, husband, good neighbor and great friend. He loved his family very much.

Surviving is his daughter, Cindie Cortinas and husband Michael, Long Grove, Ill.; a son, Tony Crites and wife Christina, Aurora, Ill.; two grandchildren, Addison Brae and Aiden Grahm Cortinas, Ill; three sisters, “Susie” Shirley Lorraine Crites Dyer, Tenn., Mary Irene Dowling, Fitzhugh, and Vickie Ilene Downling; and two brothers, Herbert Grant Dowling Jr. and wife Norma, and Michael Wayne Dowling and wife Joann; and Ligia Cardenas-Crites, Cindie and Tony’s mother.

There was a Memorial Service on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Inurnment was private.
