LENA M. VOLKIN [Romney, W.Va.]

— ROMNEY, W.Va. —  Lena Mae Volkin, 60, of Romney, died Saturday, July 12, 2014, surrounded by her loving family in Morgantown, W.Va.

Lena was born on Dec. 8, 1953, in Morgantown, daughter of Minnie Irene (Basham) Perdue, Romney and the late Elbert Hubbard Perdue.

Lena enjoyed reading the Bible. She loved to be at home in her surroundings. Rescuing dogs, cats, and other wildlife was a passion. Unknown to many, Lena spent much time helping those in need.

She was a nurse who not only took care of her patients’ physical needs but their emotional and spiritual needs as well. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her seven month old granddaughter, “Charli.” Lena always believed that human life, created in God’s image should be graced with value, respect, and dignity at every stage of life and as a compassionate nurse practiced this daily. She believed deeply that death was not an end to life and hope but only a passing to eternal life.

Surviving are her husband, Michael M. Volkin, Romney, one daughter, Jennifer Jordan and husband, Jamie, Romney, one brother, Robert Lee Perdue and wife, Ina, Maidsville, W.Va.; two sisters, Rachel Toth and husband, Richard, Morgantown and Linda Sue Richman and husband, Bill, Romney; and one granddaughter, Charlotte Kaylene Jordan.

The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, from 1 to 3 p.m.

The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at the Shaffer Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Moreland officiating.

Interment will be at Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney.
