HAGERSTOWN — Francis H. McDermott, 94, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at Julia Manor Health Care Center.
Born Feb. 10, 1918 in Cresson, Pa., he was the son of the late Alonzo and Elizabeth Wismiller McDermott.
He was preceded in death by his wife, of sixty-two years, Bridget Ann McDermott in 2011.
Francis was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.
He was employed as a social worker with the State of Maryland for thirty years.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Francis was a devoted Catholic who attended daily Mass.
He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society in Cumberland, Maryland.
He is survived by two sons, Michael McDermott and wife, Patricia of Hagerstown, and George McDermott of Jupiter, Fla.; three grandchildren, Gabrielle McDermott, Patrick McDermott and Matthew McDermott.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, and three brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 224 West Washington St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Collin Poston will be celebrant.
Burial will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery in Flintstone, Maryland.
The family will receive friends on Monday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown from 7 to 9 p.m. Christian Wake Service will be at 7 p.m.
