Together Again

CUMBERLAND — Law-rence Ellis Davis, 81, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at the Allegany Health, Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born March 6, 1931, in Shallmar, he was the son of the late Charles M and Mary Helen (Matt) Davis. He was also preceded in death by his wife Margaret Louella (Wilson) Davis and by two sisters Wanda A. Middelton, of Cresaptown and Norma Lee Hovatter, of Cumberland.

Mr. Davis was a Navy veteran, serving our country for four years. He retired from the Kelly Springfield Tire Company. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 586; VFW and the American Legion. He was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, doing a lot of volunteer work. Besides being an usher and lector for many years, he and his son built the massive steps leading to the front doors. He was a professional masonry and built many local structures. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and white water canoeist. In fact, it is he in the Old German white water canoeing commercial you may remember.

He is survived by his son, Tim Davis and wife Deborah (Weasenforth), of Winchester, Va.; three sisters, Helen M. Bujac, of Bowie, Marcella J. Cox, of Shelby, N.C. and Jeanine Linn, of Cumberland and one brother, Charles A Davis and wife Katie, of Ridgeley, W.Va.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave. (www. on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with Father Bernard Finerty, O.F.M., Cap. officiating.

A graveside service and interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
