LEE ANN ZLOMEK [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Lee Ann Zlomek, 43, of Cumberland, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, surrounded by family and friends, following her battle with cancer.

Born Sept. 30, 1970, in Oakland, to Bernard and Linda Zlomek, Lee Ann is preceded in death by her grandparents, Joseph and Betty Turek and John and Susan Zlomek, all of Hudson, N.Y.

Lee Ann was an algebra teacher at Mountain Ridge High School, Frostburg, and Allegany College of Maryland, Cumberland. She taught 7th and 8th grade math at Washington Middle School from 1994-2004 and served as the school’s Math Improvement Specialist from 2004-2008. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1993 and Masters of Education in 1999 from Frostburg State University. She won numerous awards, including the 2012-2013 “Teacher of the Year” for both Mountain Ridge High School and Allegany County. She was also selected as Washington Middle School’s “Teacher of the Year,” 2001-2002, and received the “Tim Conroy Award for Mountain Ridge High School Teacher of the Year” in 2014.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sisters, Janet Wolfe and husband, Jeffrey, Damascus, Laura Zlomek and boyfriend, Brady Engle, Frostburg; nephew, Matthew Wolfe; niece, Julia Wolfe; five aunts, five uncles, numerous relatives, and numerous cousins in California, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, and Texas.

Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, on Thursday, June 26, 2014, from 7 to 9 p.m. and again on Friday, June 27, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at Central Assembly of God, 2020 Bedford Street, Cumberland, on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lee Ann’s memory may be made to WMHS Foundation Schwab Family Cancer Center, 12500 Williowbrook Road, Cumberland, MD 21502, and to “The Zlomek Perseverance and Service Award” at Mountain Ridge High School, 100 Nancy Grasmick Lane, Frostburg, MD 21532.
