PEGGY W. BARIE [Romney, W.Va.]

— ROMNEY, W.Va. — Peggy Winfrey Barie, 73, of Loving Hands Adult Care, Airport Road, Bluefield, formerly of The Havens and of Romney, died Sunday, July 6, 2014, peacefully at her residence.

Born July 21, 1940, in Princeton, she was the daughter of the late Homer Winfrey and Gaynell Pruett Winfrey.

Peggy was a graduate of Princeton High School, Class of 1958, and West Virginia Business College.

While living in Romney, Peggy served as secretary for the Romney Detachment of the West Virginia State Police with 29 1/2 years of service. She was a member of the Romney Church of Christ. While her health permitted, she enjoyed riding horses and camping.

Peggy will long be remembered for her devotion to her family, her kindness and love for her friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. “Bob” Barie, and a son, Gary D. Barie.

She will be lovingly remembered and fondly missed by her son, Larry J. Barie and wife Missy of St. Albans; her four grandchildren whom she loved very much, Julie Barie Turley and husband Casey, Alan Barie, Zachary Barie and Jason Staub; two great-grandchildren, Landon Barie and Pierce Staub; two siblings, Darla and Johnny Pitzer of Princeton, who were devoted to her care and showered her with lots of love while living in Princeton, Donna and Mike Oliverio of Tucson, Ariz.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate her homegoing will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Gary Durham officiating.

Friends may call Wednesday from 2 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at the Ebenezer Cemetery in Romney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Loving Hands Adult Care, 402 Airport Road, Bluefield WV 24701. The Barie family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory & Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
