CUMBERLAND — Chester Edward Porter Jr., 63, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at the Western Maryland Health System following an accident that occurred while he was doing what he loved, home construction.
Born in Cumberland, April 16, 1950, he was the son of the late, Chester Edward Porter Sr. and June L. (Shroyer) Folk.
Chester was an army veteran during the Vietnam conflict. He was a handyman who did all kinds of home construction. He had also been formerly employed by HRDC and the Tri-State Roofing Company. He enjoyed playing pool, poker and he was an avid bingo player.
Survived by his wife of 42 years, Donna Jean (Walters) Porter; one daughter, Julie A. Bentham and husband Guy of Cumberland; one brother, Donald D. Porter and wife Anne of Cumberland; three sisters, including Rosetta Garlitz and husband George of Corriganville, Debbie McKenzie and husband Roger of Cumberland, and Diane Fairgrieve and George of Frostburg. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Michelle R. Porter, Justin M., Jeremy L., and Karlee J. Bentham; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received for visitation at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. on 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, (www.scarpellifh.com) on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 from 3 to 7 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Dietz officiating.
Interment will be at Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap.
