JOHN P. DEMOSS [Cumberland]

— CUMBERLAND — John Phillip DeMoss, 78, of Cumberland, went to be with our Lord on Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, in Hudson, Fla.

Born March 25, 1935, in Greensburg, Pa., Mr. DeMoss was the son of the late Charles A. DeMoss and Bessie (Loar) DeMoss.

A graduate of Bedford High School, Class of 1954, John was a Veteran of the Army National Guard and retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company. He was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church.  John was very active in volunteer work. He was a previous member of the Bedford Road Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Fire Brigade at Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company.  John taught Archery at the 4-H Camp. He was part of the volunteer team of Rocky Gap having received many awards for his efforts.  John loved hunting and fishing.

John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ida “Mitzi” DeMoss; his son, John S. DeMoss and wife, Rosemary, LaVale, and his daughter, Patricia DeMoss and fiancé, Donald Pyles, Oakland. He also leaves behind his brothers, James DeMoss and wife, Vesta, Robert DeMoss and wife, Barbara, all of Cumberland, and Roger DeMoss and his companion, Becky of Mich., and his sisters, Agnes Donahoe and husband, Dan; and Carolyn Northcraft, all of Cumberland. Also surviving John are his grandchildren, John S. DeMoss II, and wife, Elizabeth, Annandale, Va., Tonya Ganoe and husband, Jim, Cumberland, Benjamin Shields and wife, Samantha, Hagerstown, and James Shields and wife, Samantha, Chicora, Pa.; his great-grandchildren, Vivienne DeMoss, Rogue Shields, Isabella Shields, and Rayne Shields; his close friends, Dick Kenney and wife, Barbara, Cumberland; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, ( on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at 11 a.m., with Pastor David Hattenfield officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
