CROSS JUNCTION, Va. — Ernest A. Riley Sr., 77, of Cross Junction, formerly of Cresaptown, passed away on Jan. 29, 2014 at the Winchester Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Juanita Fagan, Delores Pettit, Norma Lee Cooper; and one brother, Lee Riley.
Born on Feb. 13, 1936 in Shallmar, he was the son of the late Charles E. Riley Sr. and Bessie E. Nelson Riley.
Ernie was a 1954 graduate of Bruce High School of Westernport, where he was a member of the basketball and baseball teams.
He worked for the Celanese Corporation for 17 years in the preparation department. He was a member of the Winchester Church of God and was an avid hunter, golfer and bowler.
He is survived by his wife, Carol (Crabtree) Riley; one daughter, Susan J. Riley of Stephens City, Va., Ernest Riley Jr. and wife Cheryl of LaVale, Gregory R. Jones and wife Lynette of Cross Junction. Also surviving is one sister, Frances Hardesty of Bloomington; two brothers, Charles E. Riley Jr. and wife Carol and Darl T. Riley both of Bloomington; one grandson, Ernest A. Riley III of LaVale; and granddaughters, Megan L. Jones and Allison C. Jones (BFF) both of Cross Junction. The grandchildren were the love of his life.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, McMullen Highway, Cresaptown, (www.scarpellifh.com) on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a 1 p.m. funeral service officiated by Pastor Darrell Waller and Pastor Scott Orndorff.
