SHARI ANN (COMBS) MASZKIEWICZ [CHATHAM, ILL.]

CHATHAM, Ill. — Shari Ann (Combs) Maszkiewicz, 44, passed away on Feb. 9, 2014, at her home in Chatham after a courageous battle with cancer. Shari was born in Cumberland on Aug. 23, 1969, the second of four daughters to James F. and Carol Jean Combs.

Shari graduated with honors from Fort Hill High School in 1987 where she was a member of the National Honor Society, a Commended National Scholar and one of three speakers at her graduation. Shari then attended Robert Morris College (now University), in Pittsburgh graduating summa cum laude, with a degree in accounting in1991. While attending RMC she was also a member of Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society. Immediately upon graduation from RMC she then passed all three parts of her Maryland Accounting exam on her first try and began work in the Cumberland area for a short period of time.

Shari married Jeffry Maszkiewicz of Monroeville, Pa., on Aug. 1, 1992. She and Jeff relocated to Springfield in February 1994 where Shari first worked for Illinois Association of Electric Cooperatives. Then in December of 1996, she went to work for the Horace Mann Co. She was employed there until she could no longer work. While at Horace Mann she attained status as an FSA; an MAAA and an Actuary. Shari attained her Actuarial License by taking home study courses and passing all seven National Exams.

Besides her husband of 21 years, Jeff, she is survived by her parents James F. and Carol Jean Combs of Cumberland; her sisters Michelle Mull and her husband Leslie Mull II and their two sons Travis and Garrett Mull, all of Cumberland; Julie Hott and her husband Jim Hott and their two children Daniel and Amber Hott, all of Cumberland; and Holly Smith and her three daughters Reagan, Kennedy, and Taylor Smith, all of Chesterfield, Va.

She also leaves behind a brother-in-law David Maszkiewicz and his wife Cheryl and a sister-in-law Cindy Nacin all of Monroeville.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, on Wednesday, Feb. 12, starting at 9 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 11 a.m. with Fr. Robert Jallas officiating. A Celebration of Shari's Life will be held in Cumberland at Winifred Road Church of Christ on March 1, 2014, at 2 p.m.

At Shari’s request, in lieu of flowers she would like donations to be made to the Fort Hill Scholarship Fund, which is a 501 - C tax deductible fund. Checks may be sent to Fort Hill Scholarship Fund, 500 Greenway Avenue, Cumberland, MD 21502 or donations may be made online at www.forthillscholarshipfund.org. The family is establishing a perpetual scholarship in Shari’s name to be given to a graduating female senior who will be continuing her studies in the area of mathematics.
