CUMBERLAND — Jean Lois Cope, 85, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at the home of her daughter.
Born March 6, 1928, in Bittinger, Mrs. Cope was the daughter of the late Herbert B. Buckel and Lenora (Wiley) Buckel. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Herbert B. Buckel, Jr.
Jean was a graduate of Grantsville High School and Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and retired from Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse with 30 years of service. Jean was a member of the Melvin United Methodist Church where she helped with bible school. She was also a member of the Jean Rowland's Circle and chairperson at PPRC. Jean volunteered for the American Cancer Society and ran the Reached Recovery Program for about 30 years.
Jean is survived by her son, Michael Cope, Pittsburgh, Pa., and her daughters, Margaret Hipsley and husband, Harold, Cumberland, and Peggy Durante and husband, Jim, Fredericksburg, Va. She also leaves behind her sister, Rita Keir and husband, Charles, Fort Worth, Texas; her grandson, Marcus Hipsley and wife, Shannon, Cumberland, and her great granddaughters, Karly Hipsley and Adaline Hipsley.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Melvin United Methodist Church on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dan Taylor officiating. The family will also receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Bittinger Cemetery.
