— CUMBERLAND — Gerald “Butch” Wayne Taylor, 64, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at his home.

Born Aug. 12, 1949, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Edward R. Taylor and Mary Anna (Atkinson) Taylor. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Adams.

Mr. Taylor served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1971. He was a Boatswain Mate on the USS Independence.

Butch was the owner/operator of ApplianceGuy, serving the tri-state area .

There really wasn’t anything Butch could not do! He could do drywall, plumbing, roofing, and siding, make furniture and cook! He was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca (Miller) Taylor; two daughters, Holly Mays, of Columbia and Megan Dougherty, of Cumberland; a brother, Edward Taylor, of LaVale; a sister, Susan Haydon, of Weems, Va.; three grandchildren, Lincoln, Saw-yer and Vada Mays and two sisters-in-law who thought of him as a brother, Alice Humbertson and husband Jeff and Jennie VanMeter.

As per his wishes, Butch will be cremated. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
