CHARLES N. “CHUCK” NELSON, SR. [Keyser, W.Va.]

Together Again

KEYSER, W.Va. — Charles “Chuck” Nelson Sr., 92, passed away on June 11, 2013 at his home in Keyser, with his family there.  

He was born on Sept. 20, 1920 to James and Ollie Nelson.

He served his country in the armed forces during World War II. After he returned from overseas, he went to Dunn, N.C. and married his sweetheart, Elizabeth Hodges. They were members of the Keyser Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also attended the Church of God in Piedmont.

After his retirement from the B&O Railroad in 1980, he enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter Vickie and grandson Nelson. He enjoyed antiquing and was known for his gift of spotting worthy antiques. They opened a shop called Nelson’s Antiques. The family also had many happy times at their beach cottage on Ocean Isle Beach, N.C. and their home at Deep Creek Lake.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Elizabeth of 54 years; his son Charles Jr. in 1966; daughter, Beverley in 1971; and second wife, Betty.

Surviving are his daughter, Millie Guerin and her husband Howard, his grandson, Nelson Guerin all of Keyser and granddaughter Vickie Hall and her husband Chad, his great-granddaughter Brooke Hall of Marietta, Ohio; his brother, Elzie Nelson of Odenton; and nieces, Linda Johnson and husband Mike, JoAnn Allen and Ethel Johnson.

The family will receive friends at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Monday, June 17, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  

Private funeral services will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale, at a later date.
