CUMBERLAND — Gary “Mike” Mitchell Vanetta, 64, of Cumberland, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2013, at his home.
Born Oct. 22, 1948, in Cumberland, Mr. Vanetta was the son of the late Delbert Lee Vanetta Sr. and Virginia A. (Stansberry) Skelley. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Sandra K. Ballou.
A United States Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam Era, Mike was formerly employed at B&O Railroad and drove for Morgan Sedan Service. He was a member of the Henry Hart Post 1411 V.F.W.; the Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion; and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 172.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Tammy Blank and husband, Butch, Ridgeley, W.Va.; and his long-time companion, Bonnie Dohrman, Cumberland. He also leaves behind his brother, Delbert Lee “Butch” Vanetta Jr. and wife, Patty, Virginia Beach, Va.; his sister, Deborah Folk and husband, Paul, Ridgeley; his grandchildren, Ryan Evans and wife, Ashley; Amanda Blank, all of Cumberland, Tristan Evans, Huntington, W.Va., Zachary Blank, Cumberland, Kearston Evans, serving in the United States Navy, stationed in Mississippi; his great grandson, Bryson Shawn Evans; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and his special pets, “Bud” the dog and “Doc” the cat.
A committal service will be conducted at the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 2 p.m.
