MICHAEL L. DETER [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Michael Leon Deter, 65, of Cumberland, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2013 at his home.

Born Sept. 16, 1947, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Joseph H. Deter Sr. and Charlotte (Weber) Deter. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph H. Deter Jr.; and a grandson, Dustin Lee Elliott.

Mike served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam and formerly attended St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. He was the former owner and operator of Mike’s T.V. Repair and also worked various jobs in Winchester, Va. and Cumberland. He was a member of the American Legion Post 13. Mike loved fishing, going to flea markets and also yard sales.

Mike is survived by his wife of 45 years, Virginia  “Ginny” L. Deter, Cumberland; two daughters, Melissa Redman and fiancé Jody Stallings, Cumberland, and Carla L. Deter, Fairfax, Va.; a son, Michael K. Deter, Cumberland; six grandchildren, Bethany, Ricky, Tamara, Kimberly, Kevin and Carson Michael; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald F. Deter and wife Donna, Cumberland; a sister-in-law, Dixie and Gordon Ward of Virginia; two brothers-in-law, Mickey and Sue Stewart of Pennsylvania and Timothy Stewart, Cresaptown; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland,  ( on Monday, April 22, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne Turner officiating.

Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to Western Maryland Health System’s Home Hospice Program, “Doc” Morgan, R.N.; Dr. Khanna; LaDonna, Maricay, and Barb, his home aides, for all the care and support provided.
