SHIRLEY E. “LIBBY” LAHMAN [Lahmansville, W.Va.]

LAHMANSVILLE, W.Va. — Shirley Elizabeth “Libby” Lahman, 84, of Lahmansville, W.Va., passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Grant Memorial Hospital.

She was born Jan. 16, 1928, in Petersburg, W.Va. and was a daughter of the late Harry and Carrie (Hutton) Porter.

On Jan. 16, 1949, she married Charles J. Lahman, who preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 2011; along with four sisters, Dorothy Coleman, Anna Virginia Dettinburn, Lorena Porter and infant Betty Lee Porter and four brothers, Marshall, Woodrow, Neil and Harry Porter Jr.

Mrs. Lahman was a nutrition aid for the WVU Extension Service. She served over 50 years as the leader of the Lahmansville Step Ahead 4-H Club and was active in 4-H on the County and State level. She was a lifelong member of the Grant County 4-H All-Stars. She provided a home for numerous foreign exchange students.

She had been a active member of the Lahmansville United Methodist Church and the church Ladies Aid. She was a member of the West Virginia Farm Bureau Womens Association. She also was a member of Patterson Creek Ruritan, the Lahmansville CEOS and was a director of activities for Grant Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by one son, Terry D. (Marsha) Lahman, of Lahmansville, W.Va.; one grandson, Adam T. (Tara) Lahman, of Lahmansville, W.Va.; one great-granddaughter, Katlynn T. Lahman; two great-grandsons, Joshua W. Lahman and Jonathan A. Lahman and two sisters, Clara Mae Davis, resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home, of Thomas, W.Va. and Delores (Dale Emanuel) Secrist, of Lahmansville, W.Va.

Family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lahmansville United Methodist Church in Lahmansville, W.Va.

Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. in the Lahmansville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger A. Harrison Sr. and the Rev. Ann W. Harrison officiating. The 4-H All-Stars and 4-H Club members will be honorary pallbearers.

Interment will follow in the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville, W.Va.

Memorials may be made to the Lahmansville United Methodist Youth, 6725 Patterson Creek Road, Lahmansville, WV 26731.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, W.Va.
