SISTER REGINA LINDNER [Emmitsburg]

EMMITSBURG — Sister Regina Lindner, Daughter of Charity, died on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012.

She was born Aug. 11, 1919 in Cumberland, the sixth of the children born to the late Teresa and John Lindner. Sister is one of five sisters who became Daughters of Charity. Little Teresa was named for her mother.

After completing her secondary education at Catholic Girls Central High School, she entered Postulatum in September 1941, and spent almost a year in the Seminary. In God’s plan, she was to wait a few years before continuing to pursue her vocation. Following the recommendation of her spiritual director, she began serving her country by joining the WAVES, in the U.S. Navy. After leaving the service, she returned home to care for her mother, where she remained until her mother’s death. She returned to the Community in January 1947.

After completing her initial formation, Sister Regina was sent to the Home for Catholic Children in Boston, Mass. Beginning in 1952, and continuing for 20 years, she taught English on the elementary and secondary levels in Johnson City, N.Y., Charleston, S.C., Albany, N.Y., Baltimore and Portsmouth, Va.

Sister Regina received her BA from St. Joseph’s College in 1962, and her MA from St. John’s University, Jamaica, N.Y. in 1969. Beginning in 1977, Sister served in Patient and Pastoral Care in Washington, D.C., Pensacola, Fla. and Emmitsburg. Sister Regina was missioned to the Villa in March of 2001, where she remained in the ministry of prayer until her death. Sister was a Daughter of Charity for 65 years.

Sister Regina was a member of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012.

Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery on the grounds of St. Joseph House, Emmitsburg.

Sister Regina is survived by sisters, Sister Mary John, D.C. and Mrs. Loretta Lippold; sister-in-law, Melba Lindner; a number of nieces and nephews and a large extended family.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Marie Yockus, Bernadette Lindner, Sister Florence Lindner D.C., Sister Madeline Lindner D.C. and Sister Clare Lindner D.C.; five brothers, John Lindner, Philip Lindner, James Lindner, Michael Lindner, and Paul Lindner; brothers-in-law, Anthony Yockus, Thomas Lippold; sisters-in-law, Alberta Lindner, Betty Lou Lindner, Jeanne Lindner.
