CUMBERLAND — Laurie Ann Dawson, 52, of Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013 at her home.
Born April 23, 1961, she was the daughter of Clara Shearer, Centerville, Pa. and the late James Diehl. In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Roger Lee Dawson Sr.; two daughters, Brandi Lee Miller and Brittany Faye Vanetta; one son, Richard Edward Sluss III; and one sister, Debra Ray.
Laurie enjoyed her children and grandchildren, spending time with them at their sporting events. She enjoyed doing anything outdoors, especially on the water, road trips and sightseeing. In addition, Laurie was a loyal fan of the Fort Hill Sentinels, and the Baltimore Ravens. She also admired Pittsburgh football star Troy Polamalu because she loved his hair. She was a kind woman and would help anyone with anything, especially the handicapped since one of her daughters was handicapped needing a wheelchair.  Laurie was Methodist by faith, and participated in activities at the Salvation Army. She was also an avid listener of music, with country and rock’n’roll being her favorite genres. 
In addition to her mother, Clara Shearer, she is survived by one daughter, Clara Powell and husband Joe, two sons, Jon Vanetta Jr. and Roger Lee Dawson and special friend Krisanna Sturtz, one sister, Cathy Moore, all of Cumberland; five grandchildren, Derrick, LaKiah, Brianna and Brittany Powell all of Cumberland and Abigail Vanetta, Lonaconing; several nieces and nephews all of whom she loved very much; and her mother’s special friend, Steve Bauman, Cumberland.
Friends will be received on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013 at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. (www.scarpellifh.com) 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Paul Dietz officiating.  
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in the form of donations to Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. to help with the funeral expenses.
