CUMBERLAND — Edward Wayne Hankinson, 87, of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 1, 1926, in New Baltimore, Pa., Mr. Hankinson was the son of the late Edward James Hankinson and Gladys (Landis) Hankinson. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Velma Pearl Hankinson, Aug. 19, 2012; a brother, Pius Hankinson; and three sisters, Anna Trabucco, Sarah Beltz, and Mary Catherine Will.
Wayne attended Berlin Brothers Valley High School. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from Kelly Springfield Tire and Rubber Company. He was a member of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church and formerly employed by Stan’s Auto Body.
Wayne is survived by his sons, David Hankinson and wife, Donna, Fairhope, Ala., and Dale Hankinson and wife, Tina, Bedford, Pa. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Drew Hankinson, Monticello, Ga., and Dustin Hankinson and wife, Melissa, Ridgeley, W.Va.; his great-grandchildren, Cade Hankinson and Blake Hankinson; his brother, Urban Hankinson and wife, Mary, Baltimore, and his sisters, Ida Mae Hillegas and husband, Chet, New Baltimore, Pa., and Ruth Hillegas, Bedford, Pa.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at 10 a.m.
Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
