— CUMBERLAND — Vera Bell (Hewett) Rayburn, 101, of Cumberland, wife of the late William “Joe” Hugh Rayburn, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at The Golden Living Center.

Mrs. Rayburn, a native of Cumberland, was born Nov. 26, 1911 to Jacob Calvin Hewett and Cecelia Wigfield Hewett.

She graduated from Allegany High School and lived her entire life in Cumberland. Mrs. Rayburn was a lifetime member of St. Mark’s Community Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Rayburn was preceded in death by her two sisters, Gladys Hewett Shafferman and Jessie Hewett Horn.

She is survived by her nephew, James F. Horn, M.D.; her niece, Judith Horn Rummo; three grand-nieces; and one grand-nephew.

A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 at 10 a.m. in the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, with the Rev. Harold Shaffer officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Golden Living Center for the kind, compassionate care provided to their aunt for over a decade.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Golden Living Center Resident Fund, 512 Winifred Road, Cumberland, MD 21502.
