— SILVER SPRING — Edmund R. Allen, 84, of Silver Spring, formerly of Midland, died on March 18, 2014 at the the Holy Cross Sanctuary, Burtonsville.

Born on Aug. 7, 1929 in Midland, he was a son of the late George and Nellie (Cav-anaugh) Allen. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph B. Allen, killed in World War II; and a sister, Clara Sabato of Oceanside, Calif.

A graduate of Beall High School, he was a welder by trade having worked for Lofstand, Rockville. A Catholic by faith, he was an altar boy at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Midland in his early years.

Surviving are his two sisters, Edna (Allen) Crumpler of Studio City, Calif. and Marguerite (Allen) Lee of Keyser, W.Va.; nieces, Connie (Largent) Hubbard, Suzanne (Crumpler) Rogers and Loretta (Crumpler) Deaton; and nephews, Fred Largent, Anthony Lee and Adam Lee.

At his request, his body was cremated and services will be held at a late date.
