SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Bertha Mae Porter, 80, of Short Gap, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, at her daughter’s home.
Born on June 11, 1932, in Wiley Ford, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Delphia (Landis) Wagoner. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Archie Porter, on March 6, 2006; two daughters, Reba Lee and Sharon Elizabeth and her brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Porter was a homemaker and a former member of the Barrelville Outdoor Club Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates baseball fan and loved flowers, especially jonquils.
She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie M. Dowden and husband John; a granddaughter, Penny M. Chaney and husband Scott; two great-grandchildren, Allison B. Chaney and Erica M. Chaney, all of Short Gap; a sister, Yvonne Kuykendall; numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Lanny and Patty Hinkle, of Westminster.
As per her wishes, she will be cremated.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 3 p.m. in the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Short Gap, with the Rev. Martha Ognibene-Thompson officiating.
Inurnment will be at a later date.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Potomac Valley Hospice and especially to Marsha, Sandy, Sharayah, Nichole and Sheila. Also a special thank you to Allison and Erica Chaney for the care they provided for their great-grandmother. Finally thank you to all who cared and helped.
