LAVALE — Patricia Ann (Spessard) Witmer, of LaVale, died at home on Saturday, March 23, 2013.
Born Aug. 3, 1930 in Chambersburg, Pa. and raised in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late V. Roy Spessard and Ruth V. (Coldsmith) Spessard.
Mrs. Witmer had been employed in the Personnel Office of Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown, and in Ali Ghan Shrine Club office.
She was a member of LaVale United Methodist Church, where she served twice as President of the United Methodist Women and had been awarded a Special Mission Recognition. She also served on various church committees. Mrs. Witmer was a 30 year Western Maryland Health System Volunteer, having started her volunteer work in 1976. She served as Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader and was an alumnus of Girl Scouts of America.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Witmer was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Kenneth D. Witmer, Sr.; one sister, two brothers, and three nephews.
She is survived by her two daughters, Diane M. Witmer, LaVale, and Laurie J. Hartung, and husband Brian, Cumberland; a son, Jerri L. Witmer, and wife Taune, LaVale; five grandchildren, Morgan Witmer-Bosley, and husband Adam, R. Claire Witmer, Rachel M. Witmer, Kayla D. Hartung, and Brian K. Hartung, Jr.; and, two great-grandchildren, Ariadine Rose Witmer-Bosley and Addigan Lee Witmer-Bosley. Mrs. Witmer is also survived by three stepchildren, Sondra Giniewski, Oviedo, Fla., Donna Gervason, and husband Craig, Oviedo, Fla., and Kenneth D. Witmer, Jr., and wife Nancy, West Chester, Pa., and 14 step-grandchildren. Mrs. Witmer had a cherished Greek friend, with whom she carried on a pen pal relationship for 60 years.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Funeral Service, P.A. Chapel of the Hills, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Tuesday from 6 until 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted at LaVale United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Bernadette Ross, officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
