KEYSER, W.Va. — Charles Perry “Pete” Grove, 79, of Rt. 6, Keyser, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013, at Potomac Valley Hospital and is now reunited with the love of his life, Viola Miller Grove, who preceded him in death on May 10, 2011.
Born on Sept. 26, 1933 in Piedmont, he was the son of the late Daisy Beryl Grove.
Perry was a 1951 graduate of Piedmont High School and served his country by joining the Navy in 1952. He married Viola “Dottie” Grove on May 5, 1956 and enjoyed 55 years of marriage before her passing. Perry was discharged from the Navy in 1956 and started working for G.C. Murphy Company as a stock boy. He worked his way up to assistant manager and served in that capacity at the Keyser store for many years. Pete had a passion for woodworking and building, so around 1973, he left his job at Murphy’s to go into business for himself as a general contractor.
When his wife became ill, he cared for her devotedly until her passing. He was hard working and well respected by all who knew him.
Charles leaves behind his three children, Allison Lynn Robinson and husband Marlin of Keyser, Peggy Ann Corbin and husband Tim of Keyser and Charles Lee Grove and companion Debbie Wallace of Luke. Besides his children, he is survived by two grandchildren, Boyd Adam Robinson and wife Tabitha of Keyser, and Amanda Michelle Jones and husband William Lendon of Seneca, S.C. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren and his best friend, Don Biser; two sisters-in-law, Nancy L. Sawyers and husband Ed of Westernport, and Doris Fay Hoopes and husband Paul of Forrest Hills, and a niece and a nephew.
We love you, Dad (Pop Pop Grove) and will miss you, but know you are where you’ve been longing to be. We thank you for the example you gave us in the way you lived and treated others, for the way you provided and cared for us, and we look forward to seeing you again someday.
Friends and family will be received at Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Thursday, May 2, 2013, from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday, May 3, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gary Morris officiating.
Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
