UPPER TRACT, W.Va. — Karen Sue (Shepherd) Kimble, 63, of Upper Tract, W.Va., passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at her home.
Born on Jan. 22, 1950 in Harman, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Lawrence and Anne Lawrence of Hambleton, W.Va.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Lawrence; older brother, Alvin Lawrence; paternal grandparents, George and Greta Lawrence; maternal grandparents, Johnny and Goldie Varner; brother-in-law Keith Dravenstott; sister-in-law, Linda Lawrence, and nephew Chris Ends.
Because her father worked for and traveled with the railroad during her childhood, Karen was raised in Hambleton, W.Va. and Ridgeley, W.Va. She graduated from Ridgeley High School in Ridgeley, W.Va. in 1967. It was during her high school days in Ridgeley that she met her first husband William Lee Shepherd, whom she was married to for 27 years.
Karen worked for a number of years at Sacred Heart Hospital in the dietary department before retiring and moving to Parsons, WV near her childhood home. After meeting and marrying her second husband Larry “Doc” Kimble in 2003, she moved to Upper Tract, W.Va. and worked as a secretary at Mineral Fab.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her daughter Kim, with whom she was close. In her younger years, she joined her car enthusiast sons Billy and Rich in their car hobby, going to car shows with the family and hosting a house full of friends. She was fortunate to have a loving family, with good parents and close sibling relationships. She leaves her family with many fond memories of their time together.
In addition to her husband, Larry “Doc” Kimble, Karen is survived by her mother, Anne Lawrence, of Hambleton, W.Va. and her children, William Charles “Billy” Shepherd, and his wife Tracy, of Cumberland, Richard Lee Shepherd, and his wife Carla, of Ridgeley, W.Va., and Kimberly Sue (Shepherd) Middleton, and her husband Todd, of Fort Ashby, W.Va.; as well as, her grandchildren Corey Lee Shepherd, Kayla Sue Middleton, Riley Lynn Shepherd, Katlyn Shae Middleton, Codey William Shepherd, Bryson Richard Shepherd, and Cyra Sue Shepherd, and her great-grandchild Marlee Sophea Alt. She leaves her siblings and their families; sister, Jane Ends, and her husband Sherley, of Parsons, W.Va., sister Anita Frazier, and her husband Truman, of Shawnee, Okla., and sister, Beverly Dravenstott of Hambleton, W.Va., along with several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her stepchildren Westley Kimble, Nicholas Kimble, and Kelly Kimble, and their families, as well as, former husband William L. Shepherd.
Friends and family will be received at the Kimble Funeral Home at 80 South Main St., Franklin, W.Va. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 from 12 to 2 p.m., with a funeral service immediately after at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Staggs officiating. Burial will be at the Cherry Hill Cemetary in Upper Tract, W.Va.
