RHODA R. (SHUMAKER) HUMMEL [Grantsville]

GRANTSVILLE — Rhoda Ruth (Shumaker) Hummel, 92, of Grantsville, died Friday, May 17, 2013, at Frostburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Frostburg.

Born June 20, 1920, in Grantsville, she was the daughter of the late Irvin and Celia (Miller) Shumaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Wilmer Hummel, May 27, 1997; two brothers, Roy and Ralph Shumaker; and two sisters, Daisy Flanagan and Dorothy Gnagey.

Mrs. Hummel was a homemaker and member of Trinity United Church of Christ and the Women’s Guild of the church. She was also a member of the Garrett County Farm Bureau and New Germany Homemaker’s Club.

Surviving are two sons, John W. Hummel and wife, Judy, Urbana, Ill., Duane W. Hummel and companion, Gayle Broadwater, Grants-ville; three daughters, Doris L. Cleveland, Bridgeport, W.Va., Carol E. Ways and husband, Frank, LaVale, Rita H. Crowe and husband, Donald, Avilton; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  

Services will be conducted on Monday, May 20, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ with the Rev. Dr. Philip J. Sorensen officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.  

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Trinity United Church of Christ Memorial Fund.
