— ANNAPOLIS — Betty Jane (Breakiron) Long, 91, of Annapolis, died March 28, 2013, in Annapolis.  

Born May 31, 1921, in Cumberland, to the late John and Christine (Thuss) Breakiron, Betty graduated from Fort Hill High School and Frostburg State Teachers College. She was also preceded in death by her son, James R Long; sister, Jean Guttierrez and brother, Jack Breakiron.

She taught at the elementary and middle school levels until receiving her Master's Degree from the University of Maryland and becoming a guidance counselor in the Prince Georges County school system.

Betty dedicated her life to children and education. She was a life member of the Prince George’s Science Fair Association, worked on the scholarship foundation for Prince George's County and was a member of the Washington Academy of Sciences, as well as a judge for many science fairs over the years.

She is survived by her husband of almost 67 years, Corson W. Long, formerly of Cumberland; daughter, Janet Long Wolfe and her husband James; grandchildren, Christine, Kimberly and James Wolfe and Timothy and Nickolas Long and great-grandchildren, Madalyn, Tabitha and Chelsea Long.

Friends are invited to Betty's Life Celebration from 11 a.m. until her funeral service begins at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater.  

Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Cumberland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
