FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Erthel E. Hinkle, 91, of Fort Ashby, W.Va., died Thursday, April 4, 2013, at the Dawn View Center in Fort Ashby.
Born on Dec. 11, 1921, at Upper Tract, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Robert and Zetta (Bowman) Mongold. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo F. Hinkle, on May 28, 2002; a son, Lynn A. Hinkle; a daughter, Jean Ann Hershey; a grandson, Darrell Hershey Jr.; two sisters, Mildred Alexander and Elizabeth “Betty” Pancake and three brothers, Robert, Ralph and Norman Mongold.
Mrs. Hinkle was a homemaker and was a member of the First Wesleyan Church in Cresaptown, where she served as junior church director, a Sunday school teacher and Bible school teacher for many years. She was also very actively involved in Cub Scouts for 33 years.
Surviving are one son, Barry S. Hinkle, of Fort Ashby; a son-in-law, Darrell Hershey Sr., of Laurel; a sister, Gaynell Holyfield, of Flint, Mich.; a brother, Larry M. Mongold, of Keyser, W.Va.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Sunday, April 7, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Monday, April 8, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Pastor David Strawn officiating.
Interment will be in the Duling Cemetery, Keyser.
