CINDY “PETE” J. CRASS [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Cindy “Pete” Jane (Robinette) Crass, 51, of the Crassington on Oldtown Road, Cumberland, transitioned from life to eternal life on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 10:25 a.m. at her beloved Crassington surrounded by her angels, family, friends, and pets.

Cindy was the light of our world. A city set on a mountaintop cannot be hidden. Nor do we light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; we set the lamp on a lamp stand, where it gives light to all who stands in the dark. Cindy's light shined in the lives of all she was acquainted with, and people saw and were blessed by her good deeds. Cindy's life and works glorified her Father in Heaven.

Born on August 06, 1962 in Cumberland, Pete is the daughter of Edward Theodore (Ted) Robinette, Sr. and her recently deceased mother, Ellen Jane (Morgan) Robinette.

Cindy was a 1980 honors graduate at Flintstone High School, Flintstone. After her graduation, she received numerous scholarships and attended Allegany Community College, Willowbrook Road. Cindy pursued an Associate’s degree in Secretarial Science and graduated second in her class in 1982. After graduation, Pete was handpicked by H. Gregory Skidmore and has remained in his employ at the Law Offices of Skidmore, Alderson, and Duncan until 07 December 2013 when her illness rendered her unable to work.

Throughout her brief life, Cindy devoted herself to the pursuit of excellence. Pete excelled in her secretarial duties at her beloved Law Firm.  Cindy was a devoted mother who did not pursue selfish advantages ahead of the welfare of her only son. Pete was a loving, practical, honest, and devoted life's helpmate to her husband and best friend. As a daughter and a sister Cindy's light shined so brightly that her parents and brother were overwhelmed with her devotion and constant attention to the smallest detail.  Pete will be greatly missed by her friends and associates throughout our community. Her light that shined so brightly has been extinguished.  Our world is gonna be a little darker place in which to live.

Cindy was a member and was taught in the admonition of the Lord at Prosperity United Methodist Church, Pleasant Valley Rd, Cumberland. Pete regularly attended services at the Second Baptist Church, Oldtown Road, Cumberland. Both of these anointed churches have been over-the-top in generosity, love, friendship, and devotion. Our friends and the dear saints attending these churches perfectly exemplify the love of Jesus of Nazareth.

Surviving and thriving are her husband and "Besties,” Paul Albert Crass. Cindy graciously married him in 1988. They shared 25 years of loving and practical marriage together; her son, E. Forhest Crass who currently resides at the Crassington, Edward Theodore “T.R.” Robinette, Jr., and his wife, Cindy (Helmstetter) Robinette, Flintstone, Margaret Rose (Dog), Chyna Minor (Cat) and numerous much loved nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

Cindy fought a heroic, courageous battle with multiple cancers for two years. Her strength and courage was an inspiration to all!!  Pete continued to diligently work and she stayed extremely busy until the complications of her last surgery washed over her like a wave on the sea.

All are welcome to celebrate Cindy’s life and eternal life at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, ( on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Cindy’s Casket Handlers will be Ben Williamson (Nephew-in-Law), Jake Robinette (First Nephew), Curt Judy (First Cousin), Travis “Shocker” Shockey (Adopted Son), Thomas “Redbeard” Shafer (Forhest’s God Father), and Raymond “Dominic” Lehman (Dear Friend).

A “Remembrance Celebration” in the sight of God will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Sherrill Dillon and the Rev. Fred Iser officiating. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service.

A Christian Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Uhl Highway, Cumberland. A “Wake” Will be held at the Second Baptist’s Social Hall following Peteez Interment.

In lieu of flowers, expression of sympathy and generosity may be made to the Western Maryland Health System’s Hospice Service, 1050 West Industrial Boulevard, Suite 15, Cumberland, MD 21502.

"If indeed our lives are more than a vapor, a mist so to speak, Cindy's life was obviously one that brought a sweet fragrance to the nostrils of those who knew and loved her.”  - Mr. Paul Barmoy
