— CUMBERLAND — Carole Kay Thorpe, 79, of Cumberland, died on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Devlin Manor Health Care Center.

Born May 31, 1933, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Walter R. Walters Jr. and Elsie C. (Gantt) Walters. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Schaidt; three grandchildren, Wendy Flanagan, James Allen Flanagan, and James Ray Flanagan; a brother, Paul Royce Walters; and a sister, Gwendolyn “Penny” Fields.

Carole worked for A&P Food Stores and was a member of Holy Cross-St. Philips Episcopal Church. She enjoyed baking and making crafts.

Carole is survived by her husband of 60 years, E. Allen Thorpe, Cumberland; a daughter, Karen K. Smith and Farnia, Ridgeley, W.Va.; her grandchildren, Nicole Schaidt and friend, Jake Ryan and Luke Harrison, both of Ridgeley; her great-grandchildren, Cainan Grapes, Rodney Ryan and Irelynn Ryan; as well as two sisters, Gail S. Smith, McMinnville, Ore. and Lois A. Green, Cumberland; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland,  ( on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 from 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at Holy Cross-St. Philips Episcopal Church, 610 Brookfield Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Theresa Brion officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
