CUMBERLAND — Norman Duane Messman, Sr., 80, of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at the home of his daughter.
Born May 22, 1932, in Cumberland, Mr. Messman was the son of the late Norman Charles Messman and Katherine Pearl (Johnston) Messman. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Joan Messman; and a half-sister, Lorna Robinette.
A United States Army Veteran, Norman retired from the Maryland National Guard and also retired from the N.A.DA., in McLean, Va., as manager of Automotive Consulting. Norman had Messman Buick Dealership in Motor City and was also employed at the First National Bank where he served as Vice President. He was a member of the Cumberland Elks Lodge 65; the Cumberland Kiwanis Club; and the Cumberland Chamber of Commerce. Norman was an avid golfer with the Herndon Men’s Golf Association.
Norman is survived by his children, Cheryl Hutzell and husband, John, Hyndman, Pa., Norman D. Messman, Jr., Winchester, Va., and Lisa Ogden and husband, Lynn, Cresaptown; and his sister, Doris “Tickie” Cochenour, Cumberland. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, John Hutzell, Chip Hutzell, Tasha Ogden; and Joshua Ogden; and a long-time companion, Eleanor Rosenberg; and her children, Bradley Rosenberg and wife, Kathy, and Aldee Rosenberg.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
A memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bruce McBride officiating.
