JOHN B. SNYDER [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — John Bernard Snyder, 95, formerly of Ridgeley, passed away on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Devlin Manor Nursing Home.

Born on Aug. 18, 1917, at home in Wiley Ford, he was the son of the late Daniel Andrew and Carrie Mae (Gibson) Snyder.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Camillia Dressman and Lucille Day; two brothers, Edward Snyder and Joseph “Sug” Snyder and a very dear friend, Wanda Lee Nave.

Mr. Snyder was a veteran of World War II, enlisting in the Army in 1943 with his brother, Edward “Pops” Snyder. They were stationed in Hawaii and the South Pacific Islands.

He owned his own masonry contracting business. Bernard enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was especially fond of the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion and was one of the founding members of the Potomac Valley Outdoor Club.

Surviving are two brothers, Andrew “Rob” Snyder, of Ridgeley and Robert Snyder and wife Marion, of Frederick; a sister-in-law, Sarah Snyder; several nieces; nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A., 108 Virginia Ave. ( on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, from 1 to 3 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home at 3 p.m. with Father Bernard Finerty, O.F.M., Cap. officiating.

Interment will be in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.
