LAVALE — Wanda Lee (Connor) Johnston, 81, of LaVale, went home to be with her heavenly Father on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

Born June 28, 1931, in Eckhart, Mrs. Johnston was the daughter of the late Crawford Connor and Hazel (Unger) Connor.

Having held many careers in her lifetime and a perfectionist of all, Wanda is mostly remembered as having owned and operated her beauty salon in Frostburg. Retired from Sara Lee Corporation, Division of Hanes-L’eggs Hosiery, Wanda is remembered for her love of angels, volunteer work and her creativity, especially, when it came to making a beautiful home for her family.

She was a member of the United Methodist Women’s group. She was also a former member of the McKinley Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and in recent years, Wanda had served in the LaVale Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Even though our family chain is broken, for those who knew and loved Wanda, she will forever remain in our hearts, beautiful and cherished, until we meet again.

Wanda was the devoted best friend and wife for 47 years to Richard N. Johnston; she was the loving mother of Mark Middleton and wife, Martha Bird, Morgantown, and Vickie Middleton-Owen and husband, Michael, Poolesville; and her stepson, Stanley R. Johnston and wife, Linda, Moorefield, W.Va. She is also survived by her sister, June LaFollette, Winchester, Va.; her brother, Crawford Connor Jr. and wife, Elaine, Winterhaven, Fla.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; as well as many loving nieces and nephews; and her constant companion, Anne, her poodle.

A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Frostburg, on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 11 a.m.  with the Rev. Karen Crosby officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
