— LAVALE — Wilhelmine Cantone, 89, of LaVale, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at the Frostburg Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born Oct. 28, 1923, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Callie H. Burns and Ella (Jones) Burns. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Anthony Cantone, in 2012; her brothers, Andrew R. Burns and Clifton Burns and a sister, Juanita Groves.

Mrs. Cantone was a former employee of the Kelly-Springfield Tire Co.

She is survived by a daughter, Darlene Smith and husband Paul, of LaVale; a son Dale E. Cantone, of Baltimore; three grandsons, Eric R. Smith, Ryan E. Smith and Aaron N. Smith; a brother, Frank Burns and wife Jeannine, of Cumberland; five sisters-in-law, Josephine, Geraldine, Irma and Regina Cantone, of Port St. Lucie Fla. and Amy Fazio and husband Vince, of Palm Beach Gardens Fla.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, ( on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Chris Gobrecht officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Frostburg Nursing and Rehab Center, as well as family friend, Ellen Whetstone, for the excellent care they had given Mrs. Cantone during her lengthy illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contribution be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
