NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — Arthur Merle Rush, 88, North Ridgeville, formerly of Ellerslie, passed away Thursday, Sept. 17, 2013, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Avon, Ohio, following a brief illness.
Born on July 28, 1925, he was the son of the late Ward A. Rush and Rheta (Emerick) Rush, Ellerslie.
Arthur was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army from March 13, 1944 to Dec. 13, 1945. He was a POW and was held in a prisoner of war camp from Dec. 18, 1944 until April 28, 1945. He received a Purple Heart and several other decorations and citations for his service, Mr. Rush was a life member of VFW Post 9871 in North Ridgeville. He enjoyed doing yard work and woodworking.
Mr. Rush is survived by his wife of 63 years, Catherine (LeMasters) Rush; one brother, Curtis Rush and wife, Theresa, Crowville, La.; and one sister, Carol Imler, Tucson, Ariz.
The service and internment were conducted Sept. 21, 2013, at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. Members from VFW Post 9871 in North Ridgeville officiated and conducted full military honors.
