— LAVALE — Richard Gilbert Heinrich, 83, of LaVale, passed away on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013.

Born in Cumberland, on March 11, 1930, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Louise (Feller) Heinrich. Preceded in death by his wife, Billie D. Heinrich in April 2010.

He was a graduate of Allegany High School, class of 1948. After high school he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the Destroyers USS Abbot and USS Fiske during the Korean War. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family and friends and attending Allegany football games. In more recent years he liked to work with computers. The most important thing in his life was his faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mr. Heinrich was employed as a machinist for the Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. for 32 years, retired in 1987. He was also a member of Central Assembly of God Church.

Survived by his daughter, Sandra J. Scobee, Clarksville; and two sons, Richard W. Heinrich and wife Donna, Gormania, W.Va. and John G. Heinrich and wife Kathleen, Cumberland: his five grandchildren, Clint and Nathan Heinrich, Vanessa Stumpf and husband Marc, Valerie and Heather Scobee; three great-grandsons, Kolton Heinrich, Kaleb Heinrich, and Mason Stumpf; his brother, Ronald A. "Gus" Heinrich and wife Mary, Piedmont, Ala.; and his sister, Etta L. Fuller, Falling Waters, W.Va.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, ( on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.  

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at noon with Pastor Tom Lantz officiating.   

Interment will be in Maryland State Veteran’s Cemetery, Rocky Gap.  

Military honors will be accorded by the Post 13 Veteran’s Honor Guard.
