— RAWLINGS — James Wilbur Eaton Sr., 79, of Rawlings, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at Golden Living Center.

Born Dec. 4, 1933 in Cumberland, Mr. Eaton was the son of the late Reuben Washington Eaton and Cora Elizabeth (Hickle) Eaton.  He was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters, Jim being the youngest of eight brothers and sisters. His ancestors owned and operated boats on the C&O Canal.

Jim graduated from Allegany High School and was a retired member of the I.B.E.W. Local 307, having worked for Queen City Electric. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Jim was an avid car enthusiast and in his retirement his pride and joy was the restoration of his 1965 Impala Station wagon of which he was the original purchaser. He won several regional and national awards. Jim and his wife were members of the Queen City Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America and enjoyed participating in the club activities and showing their cars. Prior to his illness, Jim had been working on restoring his 1934 Chevy Roadster Coupe.

During his retirement, Jim often lent his talents and skills for various projects at Calvary Baptist Church and the Calvary Christian Academy. He was a hard worker, a solid man, and enjoyed working in his yard. Jim enjoyed attending local high school football games.

Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Harriet Jane (Lease) Eaton; his sons, James Eaton Jr., Westport, Conn., Gary Eaton, Rawlings, Steven Eaton and wife, Jane, Mount Savage, and Jeffrey Eaton and wife, Krista, Rawlings; and his daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Kronenwetter and husband, Jim, Boynton Beach, Fla. He also leaves behind his sister, Ethel Judd, Frostburg; his granddaughters who were very special to him, Sarah and Emily Eaton, Rawlings; a close nephew, Earl Eaton, Flintstone; his brothers-in-law, Calvin Lease, Wade Lease and wife, Karen; and his sister-in-law, Daisy Ritchie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland,  (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. The I.B.E.W. will conduct a service beginning at 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Calvary Baptist Church on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bruce McBride officiating. The family will also receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Golden Living Center for the care they provided during his recent illness and mom sends a hug to Kathy and Maria who took good care of dad and assisted her during her visits.

Jim will be missed by his family and friends who always appreciated his willingness to help and his excellent sense of humor.
