CHARLES F. MARTIN [Fayetteville, N.C.]

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Charles F. Martin, Sr., 99, of Fayetteville, N.C., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Born Aug. 11, 1914, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William Addison Martin, and Lillian W. (Rizer) Martin. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of fifty-six years, Erma Martin; five sisters, Ruth Blume, Mildred Elrick, Lucille Price, Virginia Easton and Catherine Brode and four brothers, Luther, Carl, Ralph and Paul Martin.

Mr. Martin was a 1932 graduate of Allegany High School. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. Charles was a life member of the Park Place United Methodist Church and loved gospel and country music. He loved to play the piano by ear. He believed in love at the “first kiss”. Formerly of Cumberland and LaVale, he moved to North Carolina in 2000 to live with his grandson David and his wife Viola where he resided until his death.

Surviving are one daughter, Annette “Tess” Martin Fuller and husband Tom, Corriganville; one son, Charles F. Martin, Jr. and wife Elaine. Cameron, N.C.; grandchildren, David A. Martin and wife Viola, Fayetteville, N.C., Karen Martin, Lillington, N.C., Sharon Lewis and husband Warren, Grandy, N.C., Rodney Fuller and wife, Julie, Corriganville, and Jen Scritchfield and husband Bill, Ellerslie; fifteen great-grandchildren, Amber Everett and husband Kevin, Camden, N.C., Stephanie Gilbert and husband Mark, Mechanicsville, Metrue Lewis and fiancé Sarah, Grandy, N.C., Ashley Martin, Lillington, N.C., Priscilla Smith and husband Taylor, Fayetteville, N.C., Cory, Cody, Olivia and Elizabeth Martin. Fayetteville, N.C., Jordyn and Liam Fuller and Isaac, Allie, Sammy and Chloe Scritchfield; and great-great grandchildren, Christopher and Nathan Everett, Camden, N.C., Dylan, Gavin, and Evangeline Gilbert, Mechanicsville, LeAnn Emma Lewis and Emma Marie Smith, Fayetteville, N.C.  

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, ( on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at Park Place United Methodist Church on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Vickie Cubbage officiating. Friends will be received at the church on hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Military Honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
