— CUMBERLAND — Shirley Evaline “Angel” House, 81, of Cumberland, passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013 at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.

Born in Cumberland, on July 10, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Goldie (Bryant) Livingood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Richard House Sr.; two granddaughters, Brandi Lee House and Emily Grace Christo; two sisters, Anna Athey and Betty Myers; and two brothers, Richard Livingood and Arthur “Tub” Livingood.

A graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1950, Angel loved music throughout her life and was active in the music ministry at her church, Highland Baptist Church, where she was a member of the church choir. She would sing special songs with her husband and solos by request. She could play the piano, organ, and accordion; often without the use of music, playing “by ear”. She played the piano and organ for special events for family and friends and was active in the music program at Frostburg Village Nursing Home where she resided for the past five years. Her music would bring a smile to anyone’s face who heard her.  

She is survived by her children, Richard House Jr. and wife Patricia, Cumberland, Theodore E. House and wife Cheryl, Cumberland, Cleo C. Mowery and husband Donald of St. Leonard, Leland J. House and fiance Lisa, Cumberland, Kimberly S. Mairena and husband Douglas, Falls Church, Va., and Lori B. Christo and husband Kenneth, Cumberland.  

Shirley is also survived by eight grandchildren, Richard House III and wife Jennifer, Cumberland, Jack Lancaster II and wife Devon, Lusby, Trisha N. Jobe and husband Nathan, Eden, N.Y., Brandon House and wife Bethany, LaVale, Brittany Rose and husband David, Hawaii, Jessica Mairena, Falls Church, Katilyn Mairena, Falls Church, and Alexander Christo, Cumberland: and eight great-grandchildren, Haley, Noah, Levi House, L.J. and Owen Lancaster, Tucker and Delaney Jobe and Camden House.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, ( on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013 from 9 to 11 am.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Josh Hobbs officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those who desire to honor Shirley’s memory may do so by sending contributions to Haley House, her great-granddaughter, who has been diagnosed with a brain stem tumor, c/o Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, MD 21502.
