CUMBERLAND — Ninnettie Elizabeth Marie Bailey passed peacefully the evening of Monday, Oct. 7, 2013.
Marie was the loving mother of five boys, Shane, Yuri, Travis, Tate and Yancey Bailey.
She is also survived by her husband, Carl Marcus Bailey; siblings, John Horner, Myra Yonker, and Sadonia, and multiple nieces; nephews; grandchildren and godchildren.
All who knew Marie, knew her as a fierce and sometimes overly assertive individual. She was loud, cussed like a sailor and would stand up to anyone to defend the weak. She was a nurse and compulsive care giver, who tended to ailing neighbors and strangers alike; even when she was weak and ailing herself. She had an almost unhealthy obsession with butterflies which she shared by giving presentations to elementary school students and in her photography. She had a bawdy sense of humor, that could as easily make you roll on the floor, as well as blush; and when she really laughed it lit up the room.
Open mind and open hearted, she was the single most accepting and loving person you would ever meet. She taught everyone, lucky enough to know her, how to be brave, how to stand tall and how to care for others.
In typical Marie Bailey fashion, Maries last act of charity and kindness, was to donate her body to the Maryland State Anatomy Board in the hope her body could help medical students learn.
In lieu of her passing, the family is holding a private service to honor Marie's memory. The family asks, if so moved, that you make a donation in her honor to the charity of your choice. Otherwise, pay honor to this special woman by thinking of her with the next butterfly you see.
