LAVALE — Nonnita Frances Grabenstein, 96, of LaVale, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born on April 6, 1917 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Edward P. and Margaret (Turner) Cosgrove. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Grabenstein; daughter, Dolores Fuller; granddaughter, Heather Mich-elle Burrows; great-granddaughter, Cynthia Jene Flesher.  

Nonnita worked for the Celanese Fiber Corporation in her younger years in the looming department. She then moved on to work for Sears as a customer service professional where she spent 27 years before her retirement in 1983. Nonnita was a member all her life at the Our Lady of the Mountains, Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church. She loved to travel, and has been to many countries around the world. Nonnita was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are her one son, Gerald Grabenstein and wife Sue; grandchildren, Annette Flesher, Troy Grabenstein, Drinda Wiebusch, Becky Kreiling, Rhonda Piser; great-grandchildren, Shane, Chad and Paige Kreiling, Jared Piser, Nicole and Trina Flesher, Claire and Nathan Wiebusch, Cole and Emily Burrows; great-great grandchildren Carson and Corbin Bittner.  

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A. ( 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013 from 2 to 5 p.m.  A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home at 4 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Mountains, Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Staff at Allegany Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the Progressive Care Unit at Western Maryland Heath System for the wonderful care provided to Nonnita.
