CUMBERLAND — Goldie Marie Crone, 91, of Cumberland, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born Sept. 23, 1922, in Tucker County, W.Va., Mrs. Crone was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin (Huffman) and Lula Rebecca (Sites) Huffman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John S. Crone; a grandson, Jamie P. Crone; her sisters, Grace Nelson, Beulah Milstead, and Ruby Levin, and her brothers, Oley Huffman, Hoye Huffman, Carl Huffman, and Kelly Huffman.
A homemaker, Goldie was a graduate of Davis High School, Davis, W.Va. She was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church and the Women’s Group of the Zion United Methodist Church. Goldie loved the Lord and her church and family and was helpful to everyone. She absolutely loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Many hours were spent making apple butter, baking bread, making quilts, and helping with church dinners.
Goldie is survived by her children, Judy M. Dopkowski and husband, Philip, Columbia, Paul D. Crone, Carol J. Straw and husband, Ronald, and Elaine S. Strawderman and husband, Jerry, all of Cumberland. She also leaves behind her sisters, Maysell “Mae” Brately, and Evelyn “Evie” Morrow-Palmer, and her sister-in-law, Doris Crone. Goldie is also survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer Faught, Devin W. Crone and wife, Kelly, Ryan D. Crone and wife, Cathy, Laura Rivers and husband, Sean, Ronald J. Straw, Jr., Aaron R. Strawderman and wife, Carlina, Adam W. Strawderman and wife, Andrea; and Sarah Burnett and husband, Shelby; 14 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Monday, March 3, 2014, and from 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Rebecca Vardiman officiating. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
