RUTH J. CROSSLAND [Danville]

DANVILLE — Ruth Julia Crossland, 89, formerly of Danville, on Saturday, July 27, 2013, went home to be with the Lord at Manor Care Nursing Home, Westernport. She had been a resident at Manor Care for the past five years.   

Born March 8, 1924, at Rawlings, she was the daughter of Frank David and Eva Oleta (Smith) Llewellyn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hardy Howard Crossland, in 1993; three brothers ; one sister; and one great-grandson.  

Mrs. Crossland served the wartime effort (World War II) in the manufacture of material for parachutes at the Celanese factory. She was a member of the Danville Church of the Brethren where she served as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School secretary and treasurer, president of the Women’s Fellowship, church board member, and deaconess.    

She was a mother and housewife.   

She is survived by four brothers, Glen Llewellyn of Winchester, Va., George Llewellyn and Louis Llewellyn of Huffman Hollow RD, James Llewellyn of Clarysville; three sisters, Dorothy Sutherland of Huffman Hollow RD, Betty Loar of Dan’s Mountain, Linda Dever of Cumberland;  by five sons, Donald Crossland and wife Emma of Moorefield, W.Va., Gary Crossland, Fred Crossland, and Dale Crossland and wife Sandy of Danville, David Crossland of Delores, Colo.; two daughters, Judith Staggs and husband Jerry of Columbus, Ohio and Lois Martin and husband William, of Bedford, Va.; 16 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A. (www.scarpellifh.com), Cresaptown, on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 from 5 to 7 p. m.  

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Randy Cosner.

Interment will be in Biertown Cemetery, Rawlings.
