CUMBERLAND — Josephine Regina Coleman Miltenberger, 82, of Cumberland, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013, at Devlin Manor Nursing Home surrounded by her family.

Born March 18, 1932, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. Coleman and Theresa Margaret (Grabenstein) Coleman. She was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Catherine Coleman and Mary Ann Coleman and two brothers, William Francis Coleman and Joseph Coleman.

She was a graduate of Catholic Girls Central High School, and attended Frostburg State College.

In 1956, she and her husband Fiddle embarked on a five year lay mission in Mendi, Papua, New Guinea under the auspices of the Capuchin Friars of Pittsburgh, Pa. Upon return to the United States she was employed by various real estate agencies in the Cumberland area.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was active in the Sacred Heart Hospital Auxiliary. She was accomplished in sewing, knitting, crochet and embroidery. She enjoyed reading, movies, bridge, travel and visits with her extended family.

Surviving are her husband of fifty-six years, Fidelis “Fiddle” Miltenberger; a daughter, Ann Miltenberger Sperry and husband Clark Stevens Sperry Jr., of Crownsville; three sons, Michael M. Miltenberger and wife Isabella, of Wichita, Kan., William Miltenberger, of Baltimore and Edward Miltenberger, of Arlington, Va.; two grandchildren, Malissa Ann Sperry, of Crownsville and Clark Stevens Sperry III, of Boulder, Colo. and numerous cousins.

At her request, her body will be cremated.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., ( on Friday, April 19, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, Cumberland, on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at 10 a.m.

Inurnment will be in Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Josephine’s name to the Capuchin Mission in New Guinea, in care of The Capuchin Friary, 220 37th St., Pittsburgh, PA 15201 (
