THOMAS D. DUNN [Midland]

MIDLAND — Thomas Douglas Dunn, 86, of Midland, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at Egle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lonaconing.

Born on June 18, 1927, in Midland, he was the son of the late Nathaniel "Red" Dunn and Jane (Gray) Dunn. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice “Alkie” Marie (Cooper) Dunn on Dec. 29, 2006; they were married on Jan. 26, 1957, in Midland; two sisters, Jeannette Broadwater and Agnes Robertson and three nephews, Tommy Joe Broadwater, Dale Cooper and Gene Cooper.

Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II and was a member of the Gold Circle Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. He was a member of the Midland Grace United Methodist Church. He had worked as a milk deliverer for 43 years for Dashiell Dairy Inc. and Potomac Farms. He was a member of the Local Union 453 International Brotherhood of Teamsters Chauffeurs Warehousemen and Helpers and the Teamsters Retirees Local 453.

Tom was a life member of the Midland Volunteer Fire Company for 50 years. He was very involved in the fire company, acting as custodian for the fireman's tavern and he was an original member of  the bingo committee. He really enjoyed working bingo.

He enjoyed playing baseball and had played for the Midland Baseball League, Twi-Light League and Bi-State League. He also played every year but last year in Midland's Old Timer's Game. He liked to hunt and was a NY Yankees fan. He would spend most of his Friday nights with the Glutton Club of Carlos.

He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Agnes Cooper and Wilma Winner; six nieces, Alice Burkhart, Billie Jane Gardner, Mary Jane Douglas, Faith Workman, Roxann Baeza and Tamara Cooper; two nephews, Rick Cooper and Bill Cooper; many great and great-great-nieces and nephews and special friends, Jim McKenzie, Brennie Mills and Les Hitchins.

Family and friends will be received at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Midland, on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.  

A memorial service will be held by Midland Vol. Fire Co. and Ladies Auxiliary at 6:15 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harry Burchell officiating.

Interment will be held at Frostburg Memorial Park.

A special thank you is extended to the Egle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center second floor staff for the great care Tom received.

Memorial donations may be made to the Midland Vol. Fire Co. at 14823 Broadway Ave., Midland, MD 21532.

Pallbearers will be members of the Midland Vol. Fire Co.
