ECKHART — Lura Joanne (Lafferty) Thomas Layman, 95, of Eckhart, died on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born on April 6, 1918, in Eckhart, she was the daughter of the late John E. Lafferty and Mae (Dudley) Lafferty. She is also preceded in death by two husbands, William P. Thomas and Roy V. Layman; brothers, Roy E. Lafferty and Louis John Lafferty and sisters Mary Lafferty and Helen Mae Cagel.
Mrs. Layman was a homemaker and a great cook. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, quilting, but most of all being surrounded by her family. She was a lifetime Baptist and she retired from the Celanese.
She is survived by a son, Gary P. Thomas and wife Catherine, of Rawlings; a daughter, Joanne Hall and husband Robert, of Butler, Pa.; grandchildren, William Phillip Thomas, of Oldtown, Robert Lee Hall and wife Rachel, of Kalispell, Mont. and Jennifer Lynn Hall, of Cranberry, Pa.; great-grandsons, John “Jack” William Sheridan Thomas, of Cumberland and Noah Robert Hall, of Kalispell, Mont., also two beloved caregivers, Pauline Stewart and Carolyn Bailey.
A graveside service will be held at Eckhart Cemetery on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.
Interment will be in Eckhart Cemetery.
